About Us

Valerie’s background
Valerie went to Mexico for the first time when she was 16 years old and fell in love with the language and culture. She travelled to Spain for a year when she was 19. She realized her biggest dream to drive all around Mexico when she was 23. She tried really hard to fit in, studying in business administration and working in business tools optimization for a large government owned company for 11 years. But the requests for time off to travel were more and more abundant. From 25 to 35 years old, she backpacked all around the world. Then she decided to work while travelling. Tuck driving. Teaching Scuba diving. Whale Watching. She kept studying, but this time focused in general ecology. Her higher studies focused mainly on the attachment to marine life through touristic activities. She became chief of education team on a mixed cargo in northern Canada. Then something changed. A desire to build something. To have people travel towards her, instead of her towards them. But where? To the only place she had returned so many times. To her first country love. Mexico. To something meaningful where one can make a difference. Where there was enough opportunities to keep learning and building projects for many, many years ahead.

An area full of wonders
Valerie had studied at the Anahuac Mayab university in Merida (Yucatan) in 2014. She had made incredible friends and traveled the area. One friend, Adriano, brought her to his parent’s village to go Octopus fishing. That encounter was life changing. The simplicity of the lifestyle in Sisal felt really fresh. Fishing to eat. Sleeping in hammocks. Sitting outside to let social opportunities come towards you. People laughing. Kids playing in the streets. Elders saying tales of how people used to live. Everyone calling each other by their very imaged nicknames. The sea breeze everywhere in this tiny village. Money and time are not at the center of the discussion here. Everything seemed just so right, like the way humans were supposed to live. No reputation is needed. Only kindness is expected. It had always stayed in the back of her head that if one day she was lost, she could fall here and rebuild herself, slowly.
When she decided to settle, she went to visit. Her friends were trying to build an aquaculture. Others were fighting to train the locals to tourism. Others were fighting to keep local control. After 15 years living in her bags, with no fixed address, could she make it possible? The challenge was on. The opportunities to learn lit the fire. She wanted to share this incredible are and culture with visitors.

Comfortable, simple and affordable
The house is situated between the center and the port, making it accessible and quiet. The entrance to the beach is on the corner of the street. It was a local summer house and it is being renovated by Valerie and her parents (with the help of many person). It has 2 bedrooms with private bathroom and one room with shared bathroom. Shared spaces include a dining room, a kitchen, a rooftop and a porch.
