Grocery: Sisal has many stores where you can make your grocery at a walking distance. There are no big banner with international food though. Hunucma has a larger grocery and some international products will only be found in Merida. Sisal has a small fruits and vegetable market. Beef meet is harder to find but chicken, pork and seafood are available. You can cook at the house. Local products are cheaper than in Canada, but some international products might be more expensive than in your country.
Restaurants: Sisal has many options for food. Note that on weekdays, locals mostly eat out for lunch, so it might be hard to find dining options in the evenings. The village specialty is seafood: you absolutely have to eat fried fish. There are various italian and pizza options. Another great option is to order food from local cooks (often with no physical restaurant). They will deliver inexpensive home made local food. On week-ends, the streets are lively at night. It is a good idea to eat at a taco stand and have a freshly made churro! We will be happy to help our guests with recommendations on the favorites!
Hospital: The closest hospital is in Merida, Sisal has their own ambulance. A few minutes walk from the house, there is a big clinic, with a lot of material, that will take foreigners for free. There is also a small private doctor office in Sisal’s center (cost is about 15$)
Washing clothes: there are laundry businesses in the village. We like to take our clothes to the neighbor, she will wash it and have it ready the next day.
Bars: there are two bars opened at night, and one traditional cantina. Commercial beer is widely available and cheap. Craft beer is harder to find. Wine is not spread but some shops have decent options.
Others: Sisal had very good ice cream, you can rent quads and golf carts, you can rent palapas to spend the day at the beach, and so much more.
